Guy Trinquet
Guy Trinquet is known for atmospheric landscapes that bridge continents and styles. Born in Paris, and now living in Melbourne, his evocative works have twice earned him a place as a finalist in the Glover Prize.
The inspiration for his work spring from a life shaped by travel and adventures. His experience sailing across the Atlantic Ocean immersed him in an environment that fostered a profound connection with the rhythms of the natural world. This relationship is reflected through his work where the sea, ever changing skies and shifting light emerge as recurring motifs.
A self taught artist, Guy’s practice is grounded by both intuition and intention. Each painting unfold directly on the canvas without preliminary sketches, many inspired by memories and experience. His compositions are deliberately uncluttered, drawing attention to the subtle interplay of light, colour and form. He takes an inventive approach to materials - combining oil, acrylic, spray paints, mixed media, pigments and natural elements including at times 24k gold on either canvas or meticulously prepared timber panels/
He has exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne. His paintings can be found in private collections in Australia, Asia, Europe and the US, a testament to their enduring resonance and universal appeal.
